SET THE PIANO STOOL ON FIRE

“ONE OF THE MOST FASCINATING FILMS ABOUT PIANISTS EVER MADE”

- The Independent

“AN EXTAORDINARILY INTIMATE PORTRAIT”

- Alan Rusbridger , The Guardian

As he was preparing to retire from performance, the celebrated classical pianist Alfred Brendel took on as a pupil a young prodigy, Kit Armstrong. He had never taught children or adolescents, but he was so impressed by Kit’s extraordinary gifts, that he broke his self- imposed and set about helping the young man extend the reach and depth of his playing. The film tells the moving story of an old master passing the baton to a young player, and reveals with great intimacy many aspects of a usually publicity-shy musical giant.
